Response for Friday: Inventing the University

What does it mean, as Bartholomae says, to "invent the university"? Why does he use the word "invent," rather than "learn"? What, exactly, is the student inventing?

As Bartholomae infers that inventing the university sounds good I would agree. Inventing the university to me would mean to give it a new identity,to have a clean plate and make your own destiny from the ground up. That is a good use of words because rather than saying make the university, bartholomae wants to set a stamp that only is recognizable by ones involved with it.
