Friday's Post

When Bartholomae says to "invent the university" I believe he is stating that a student creates their own experiences throughout their college career. Students may or may not use sources (library, professors, study centers, or other students) to make their experiences the best. How ever they go about inventing the university, everyone's is different. It is a possibility that students in the same major may have close to the same experiences, but nothing is ever exact.
He uses the word invent rather than learn because you learn from mistakes and he doesn't want the experiences of a univeristy to be exactly a learning experience, although it is he wants it to be created and to the best of your ability. Student inventing is learning the knowledge (past, present, and future) of your discourse community.
